Mobilizing and releasing the pelvic floor

Let’s walk through a demonstration of how to mobilize the pelvic floor musculature with a Franklin ball. The exercise will include using a Franklin to release some of the musculature of the pelvic floor, by sitting and massaging the muscles using the ball. This exercise is beneficial for anyone who is healing an overactive pelvic floor or has had a previous perineal injury or is preparing for a vaginal delivery. We recommend incorporating this into your daily routine two to four times a week, working up to about two minutes total to increase mobility and circulation through your pelvic floor musculature.

Note: If you are newly postpartum, you need to be cleared by your medical provider to ensure the perineum is fully healed, and wait at least 10 weeks before starting this. Otherwise, for the general population, this is safe.
